Job Goals:  
The primary job goal of the lab assistant is to monitor and assist instructor with daily skill demo instruction, practice and student skill mastery.  Additional responsibilities include:  inventory control, equipment/supply setup and tear downs, and equipment maintenance, stocking, and ordering related to the OBRA curriculum.  

Rate of Pay:  
Placement on current specialized program assistant salary schedule

Hours to Work:  
7 hours per day

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:  
Minimum of Licensed Practical Nurse degree required 

Work Experience:        

• Two years recent long-term care clinical experience required, geriatric care experience preferred

• Previous experience working with students preferred

 

Skills:            

• Ability to work with a diverse population of students

• Strong organizational skills

• Ability to stay calm in stressful situations

• Ability to follow directions and work autonomously

• Ability to communicate & collaborate 

• Desire to work with both large and small groups of students

• Willingness to become certified as a CPR/First Aid Instructor

 

Essential Job Functions:

• Attend daily communications meetings with instructor

• Maintain the Daily Tasks in conjunction with the program instructor.

• Maintain an ongoing inventory control system for equipment and supplies under the direction and authorization of  the Program instructor.

• Track, order and stock supplies to facilitate curriculum needs.

• Set up and tear down all skill prep for demonstrations and instruction.

• Assist with the daily classroom supervision of students.

• Assist with recording daily class attendance, collecting absence follow-up forms and maintaining student absence files.

• Manage and maintain students in-classroom file cabinet, adding and withdrawing files with student drops and adds.

• Present skill demonstration, oversee student skill practice and assist in signing students off on OBRA task mastery.

• Assist with correcting and filing student assignments under the direction of the instructor.

• Function as a student chaperone on class field trips, as necessary.

• Assist students with curriculum mastery as directed by instructors.

• Assist with special projects as directed by instructors.

• Function as a First Responder for Van Buren Tech.

• Perform other duties as assigned by administration.

• Regular and reliable, in person attendance.

 

Terms of Employment:  As per master agreement and provisions established by the Van Buren Board of Education.
