Starting Date:  Position to begin at the start of the 2024-25 school year

 

Job Goal(s): The primary goal of the Science consultant is to work collaboratively with Career & Technical Education (CTE) program instructors and other instructional support staff, to ensure success for all CTE students in regards to science instruction.  The Science Consultant will be asked to provide expertise in methods to assess students' strengths, learning needs, and instructional barriers in relation to science and will provide direct support to CTE instructors by working collaboratively to design science lessons for CTE programs.  

 

Qualifications:

 

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in secondary education from an accredited college or university required

 

Certification:

Valid Michigan secondary teaching certificate with an endorsement in Science is required.  

 

Work Experience:

Previous experience teaching science at the high school level required. 

Teaching and/or consulting experience in a Career & Technical Education center is preferred.

 

Skills:

  • Demonstrates good interpersonal and communication skills. 
  • Ability to be flexible in working with instructors, support staff, and administrators.
  • Proficient in the use of educational technology and software.
  • Knowledge of, and experience with tiered systems of support.
  • Ability to integrate science academic concepts into CTE lessons.
  • Ability to apply academic skills to real world applications in the workplace.
  • Ability to construct creative, innovative lesson plans.
  • Experience delivering professional development to instructors. 

 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Working with CTE instructors in the implementation of proven, research based, instructional strategies that will enhance student comprehension and utilization of science standard expectations.
  • Assists teachers with improving techniques of science instruction and improving overall student achievement; provides instructional strategies and various tools to aid the instructional process; observes teachers and provides feedback and/or demonstration lessons.
  • Staying abreast of developments in the area of science standards and approved research based instructional strategies.
  • Working collaboratively with instructors to develop program specific science lessons that are aligned to the SAT college entrance exam concepts. 
  • Identify and maintain a record of appropriate instructional materials, equipment or facility modifications to support training goals.
  • Assist with ideas for integrating technology and best practices into lesson plans and curriculum design.
  • Provide consultation on state-of-the-art techniques and curricula for students learning science.

 

Terms of Employment: As per master agreement and provisions established by the Van Buren Board of Education.
