Migrant Summer School Highly Qualified Paraprofessional 

Pre-School-8th grade

Reports to: Multilingual/Migrant Administrator, Lead Teachers, or Assigned Teacher

In 2024 the Summer School Site will be:

*Working Dates: Moving date June 13th; In-service dates:  June 18-20, 2024.  

 Instructional dates:  Monday-Friday, June 26 through August 9, 2023.  July 4th and 5th are non-working days.   

 

*Working Hours: 7:45-4:15 unless otherwise notified.   

 

Classification: Part-time seasonal work that is grant-funded.   

 

Job Goal(s):  The primary responsibility of the Highly Qualified Paraprofessional is to assist the teaching staff in carrying out instructional activities.      

The duties of the Highly Qualified Paraprofessionals are to assist students individually or in small groups with instructional needs or daily assignments that are planned by the teacher.   

 

Specific tasks may include the following:

  • Read with individual students or read stories to small groups
  • Give Assessments to students under the direction of the classroom teacher or assessment team 
  • Assist with instructional projects
  • Assist the teacher in preparing and maintaining materials for instruction
  • Supervise clean-up activities

 

Supervise and assist students during school activities such as:

  • Field trips
  •  Recess
  •  Transportation
  •  Cafeteria or eating area, gym, pool, periods of rest, or other places of congregation
  •  Greeting and dismissing students

 

Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent AND meets or exceeds “highly-qualified” paraprofessional requirements per Title I.  (60 hours or more of college credits or passing score or higher on Educational Testing Service Paraprofessional Test.)      

 

Other skills or requirements: This position pays more if the person holds a bachelor's degree or CDA

Terms of Employment: As per master agreement and provisions established by the Van Buren Board of Education.
