Monday-Friday, 7.5 Hours/Day



Job Goals:

The overall job goal of the CTC Cafe Specialist is to provide instruction in a commercial kitchen to adult students with disabilities to teach job skills in the food service industry. Instruction includes hands on teaching in the kitchen as well as ServSafe book work. The CTC Cafe Specialist will coach CTC students to run a Cafe which serves purchased lunch to students and staff.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education:

High School Diploma Required. Associates or coursework in human services preferred.

 

Certification:

ServSafe certifications (manager, proctor, allergen) or the ability to obtain.

 

Work Experience

Experience working/supervision in a commercial kitchen. Previous experience with adults or high school students with disabilities.

 

Skills:

  • Interest and ability to work with post-secondary (18-26 year old) students with a variety of abilities and disabilities. Strong belief in the potential and success of each student.
  • Maintaining ServSafe Certifications including Manager, Proctor, and Allergen
  • Model and Coach effective and safe food handling practices to students.
  • Ability to break down and provide individualized instruction.
  • Ability to work and problem solve independently.
  • Ability to remain objective, calm and neutral in a variety of situations.
  • Ability to provide direct support and supervision of students in a commercial kitchen environment.
  • Ability to work with the Health Department to maintain restaurant standards of cleanliness and food safety.
  • Ability to complete necessary tasks to keep the cafe running smoothly such as inventory, deposits, shopping.
  • General professional skills, including a willingness to:

    • Ability to effectively communicate and work collaboratively with others.

    • Perform additional tasks, responsibilities and duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education and the Superintendent.

 

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Ability to lift 25 pounds.
  2. Ability to transport students (use of VBISD vehicles provided).
  3. Ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods as needed for student activities.
  4. Ability to physically grocery shop for cafe items.



Terms of Employment: As per master agreement and provisions established by the Van Buren Board of Education.
