Job Goals:

The primary goals are to assist with the development, and supervision of  the VBISD Early Childhood Department in providing inclusive, high quality early childhood programs and services to promote positive outcomes for all children while ensuring GSRP program implementation and Childcare Licensing. 

 

Qualifications:

 

Education: Master’s degree or equivalent in early childhood required. Degree in Special education or related fields preferred. 

 

Certification: State of Michigan Administrative Certification required. Professional special education endorsement and Special Education Supervisor or Director (per MARSE R 340.1771) approval is preferred. 

 

Work Experience: Minimum of three years of highly effective administrative experience related to responsibilities described in this job description is required. 

 

Skills:

  • Leadership skills necessary to share supervision of the following programs and services for ages birth through five years old:
    • Great Start Readiness Program
    • Great Start Collaborative 
    • Family Links: Home Visiting 
    • Build Up Preschool Evaluation Team
    • Walk-in Services and other related ancillary services
    • Early On Program
    • Early Childhood Special Education Preschool Programs & Services
  • Lead countywide work in innovative and evidence-based practices, including early childhood curriculum and development, to run high quality early childhood programs and services
  • Ability to create and maintain positive relationships with staff and multiple stakeholder groups
  • Grant management skills to assist the Director in ensuring appropriate and efficient funding across all programs and services
  • Leadership in program development and operations  to assist the Director in guiding the integration of general and special education programs to promote inclusive environments 
  • Professional presentation skills and the ability to coordinate department-wide professional learning 
  • Data collection and data analysis skills necessary for ongoing program evaluation
  • Interpersonal and  communication skills to promote information sharing, navigate conflict resolution, facilitate understanding, and transparency across programs and services within the VBISD and with member school districts 
  • Community and agency collaboration skills to promote bridges with local and State agencies
  • In depth knowledge of Federal and State laws and policies to ensure compliance and to promote best practices 
  • Culture and climate management skills to ensure a positive and safe environment for students, staff and families 
  • General professional skills, including a willingness to:
    • Make child-centered decisions.
    • Assume positive intentions when working with others.
    • Adhere to federal, state and VBISD policies and procedures.
    • Model VBISD guidelines: Respect, Integrity, Compassion and Excellence. 
    • Complete assigned responsibilities within agreed upon timelines.
    • Seek ongoing professional learning and accept feedback in a professional way.
    • Perform additional tasks, responsibilities and duties as assigned by the Director of Early Childhood

 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Ability to sit and work on a computer for long periods of time.
  • Ability to travel and participate in State meetings.

 

Terms of Employment: As per master agreement and provisions established by the Van Buren Board of Education.
